2018 was another fun year of going to conventions and making stuff! Here's a look at some of the things I did this past year!

My second year at Emerald City Comic Con was so much fun! I got to see so many amazing cosplayers and makers there!

Anime NYC 2018 Cosplay Music Video

This was my first time at Anime NYC and I will freely admit I didn't know 80-90% of the characters being cosplayed there. The Tesseract!

Stan Lee left behind an amazing legacy of characters, and is responsible for many of the popular heroes in Marvel today. He also co-created the Cosmic Cube also known as the Tesseract in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Jack Kirby. Here's my attempt at making one.

Fine Grit Sanding Sponge

And check out Uncle Jesse's Tesseract video which inspired me to make mine.

While I'm happy with how this turned out, the frosted spray paint that Uncle Jesse uses is probably the better alternative to sanding. I might go back and do that.

But this is a quick and easy project that anyone can do!

World Maker Faire NY 2018

Maker Faire is billed as the greatest show & tell on Earth and it certainly lives up to that billing! Here's a quick video recap of all the cool things I saw and a little write up of my experiences with all the amazing makers I met at World Maker Faire NY 2018!



My first stop at Maker Faire was the Prusa 3D Printer booth because I wanted to see the SLA printer they had just announced. I found out about that printer through Joel Telling, the 3D Printing Nerd, and of course I saw him at the 3D printing village! Joel is a big reason I have a 3D printer and if you're looking into investing in one, his YouTube channel is a great resource to learn all about it!

Seattle MoPOP

Back in March I went to Seattle for Emerald City Comic Con. I also stopped by the Museum of Pop Culture, also known as the MoPOP. Here are some of the cool things I saw!

Makonde Dagger Build

The Makonde Dagger was designed by artist Jonah Lobe to commemorate 250K YouTube subscribers for Punished Props.

Bill Doran built an absolutely beautiful one in a video you can check out here, and then issued the challenge to the PropTarts to build their own. Here's what I did.

Due to work, a few conventions I was preparing new coplays for, and a vacation, I had to wait until Labor Day weekend to start work on this project. A very generous PropTart with Fusion 360 skills far beyond mine uploaded a model for the dagger onto Thingiverse. It's an excellent model and I tried slicing it but could not for the life of me get the blade to fit on my 3D printing bed. So seeing as how I probably wouldn't be able to complete a full size build anyway, I decided to make a 50% scale version because you know, it would be adorable. So I printed out the sliced parts on my Prusa I3 MK2S using MatterHackers Pro PLA filament in gold.

Fan Expo Boston Cosplay Quick Cut!

I went to Fan Expo Boston last year, took a bunch of video and never got around to editing it. Now I'm back from Fan Expo Boston 2018 with a bunch of video and I decided to edit it all into this quick cut of the coolest cosplay I saw the last two years. Thanks to all the cosplayers in this video!

Ecto-1 License Plate Keychain

Here's an Ecto-1 license plate keychain I modeled in Fusion 360. I took a picture of the license plate, imported it into Fusion 360, and built the layers on top of it drawing out each individual letter. 

Connecticut Ghostbusters: Hot Trap!!!

I was with the Connecticut Ghostbusters this past weekend at ComiCONN at Foxwoods Casino and had the pleasure of filming this little skit with actor and ghost hunter Chad Lindberg. Had a lot of fun doing this, Chad brought a great energy to it, and I still feel kind of out of breath... ;)

LEGO Ectomobile Lights

I purchased an LED kit online to install lights in my LEGO Ecto-1. Here's how I put it together and how it turned out.



Putting it together took maybe an hour or two? The hardest part is probably putting the wires between the bricks so they are "inconspicuous."

The kit could be considered a little expensive but since I have no electrical wiring experience, this was the best option for me. I'd also prefer it if I didn't have to plug it in every time I wanted to turn it on, so maybe wiring in a switch would be a good beginner project.

But whatever... My LEGO Ecto-1 has lights now!

Deadpool Emoji Coin

Happy Deadpool Day! I didn't see this design on Thingiverse so I drew it up in Fusion 360 and printed it with different color layers using Prusa ColorPrint.

Basically all I did in Fusion 360 was build up layers, one for the base, then one for the eye thingees, then one for the pupils. And then I printed each layer with a different color.

And here's the emoji coin in my hand. It's about 2 inches in diameter but you could scale it up or down.

I 3D printed a vase as a Mother's Day gift for my Mom. Here's a quick time lapse!

The Cybertronic Spree at GSCF

I went to Garden State Comic Fest in Atlantic City mainly to see the Cybertronic Spree live in concert and boy did they put on an awesome show!

The Cybertronic Spree is a group of Transformers brought together by the power of Rock! From the Bourbon Room in the Showboat Hotel, Hot Rod, Arcee, Rumble, Unicron, and a Quintesson brought the house down. Here are some of the highlights from that show!

I made a thing! And it's functional 3D printing! Most of the filament clips on Thingiverse attach to the spool. I have a lot of different filaments with different spool sizes so I wanted a clip that was universal. I liked the design of one clip that came with some filament I ordered so I whipped it up in Fusion 360. I like this design because it will apply to ALL my filaments.

If you need a really simple 1.75mm filament clip, you can check it out on Thingiverse. I'm sure you could scale this to fit 3mm filament as well. Happy 3D printing!

2017 nerdy views in Review

As I look back on 2017, I went to a bunch of conventions, met some wonderful people and made some really cool stuff. To showcase all of that, I started to teach myself video editing and began uploading videos to YouTube. Here's some of what I did in 2017.

It was my first time at Emerald City Comic Con and my first time putting a video like this together and I think it turned out pretty good!
