Baby Groot was the scene stealer in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, and I decided to make one for a Secret Santa gift exchange!
Printed from a model on thingiverse which you can find here, on my Prusa i3 MK2S which has proven to be an invaluable tool. I used MatterHackers gray PLA for this and it came out great.
The head prints separately and requires the large support disc at the bottom to prevent it from falling over.
Here's what he looks like put together. He was printed at .15mm layer height so the 3D print lines are very minimal.
I used Evil Ted's video on painting a Baby Groot as a how to. So I sanded the model to get rid of some of the print lines, and then I sprayed a couple coats of filler primer to take care of the rest.
I then just coated Groot with some dark brown acrylic paint. This was mainly to get all the nooks and crannies covered.
I then went over him again with a lighter brown paint, practically tan because Groot isn't actually brown in the movies.
I then dirtied him up with some black and brown acrylics and painted his eyes a glossy black. It doesn't really show too well in pictures but I also added some shades of green on some edges to simulate moss.
Here's his backside.
I also made a very simple little platform for him to sit on.
All in all, a super fun project that only took a few days to do!
