Doctor Strange Trailer Breakdown

The first trailer for Doctor Strange is out! And boy is it a mind trip...

Considering it's the first trailer, we don't even see Doctor Strange in his familiar duds until the end, and even then it's just his back. With the movie seven months away, you've gotta leave something for future trailers, right?

The trailer starts with the aftermath of the car crash that ends Strange's career as a neurosurgeon, and Baron Mordo tells him, "Stephen Strange, might I offer you some advice? Forget everything that you think you know." It's like he's speaking directly to the audience. Guys in armored suits? Pffft... Aliens? Please... I'm talking magic here! And this is about to get surreal...

"You're a man looking at the world through a keyhole." And once you open the door, your world is gonna get a whole lot bigger.

Benedict Cumberbatch, perfect casting.

Wow, that car accident really messed him up...

Rachel McAdams as one of Strange's surgical colleagues.

"You've spent your life trying to widen it."

"Your work saved the lives of thousands." The trailer is doing a lot of pre and post accident edits.

"What if I told you... that reality is one of many?" Wow, the Ancient One did not just Matrix meme you?!?

Come get some?

Those are some really screwed up hands...

Baron Mordo walking into traffic.

"I don't believe in fairy-tales about chakras or energy or the power of belief." Wow, it's so weird to hear Benedict Cumberbatch speaking with an American accent.

"You wonder what I see in your future?"

"Possibility." Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, the person who teaches Doctor Strange the mystical arts.

And who also punches the living ghost out of him...

The mother of all out-of-body experiences.

This trailer is really trying to convince us that stuff is about to get weird. I need no convincing!

Mads Mikkelsen plays the bad guy, and he kind of looks like Vigo the Carpathian from behind.

In the Himalayas, it's kinda cold...

Here's a better look at Mads doing his kaleidoscope thing.

Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Baron Mordo, an enemy of Strange in the comics, but here, they seem to be allies.

It's a literal mind trip...

Inception!

"Teach me!" I consider this the "I know kung fu" moment from The Matrix.

All caped up heading into the Sanctum Santorum.

Yes, there are elements of The Matrix and Inception in the trailer, and yes it just makes me more excited to see the movie!

Doctor Strange opens November 4th.
