Agent Carter Premieres Tonight
Just a reminder that Marvel's Agent Carter premieres tonight on ABC. The eight-part limited series follows Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) from Captain America: The First Avenger, as she adjusts to life after the war ends. It's the 1940's, it's a male dominated America, and she's a secret agent leading a double life. Maybe it'll be like a cross between Mad Men and Alias?
In the first episode tonight, Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) is framed for selling weapons to the enemy, and Carter has to help clear his name with the help of his butler, Edwin Jarvis (James D'Arcy).
And here's a behind the scenes look from Good Morning America.
My own personal interest level in Agent Carter is tepid at best. It's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I like the character so I'll give it a shot. Plus, having only an eight episode commitment is appealing since I'm not sure they'll be able to keep up the series after its initial run. But reviews have actually been pretty good, so what do I know?!?
Alan Sepinwall from HitFix.com says Peggy Carter has an obvious personality and a clear arc, and the first two episodes stand entirely on their own so viewers can jump right in without having watched Agents of SHIELD.
Noel Murray from AVclub.com calls the show "snazzy, retro, and super-cool," and even likens its spirit to 80's series like The A-Team, Moonlighting, and Remington Steele. All are shows I really enjoyed, so count me a little more interested.
And James Poniewozik from Time.com likes the show's single story arc with no movie tie-ins so it can focus on character development making it entertaining and engaging enough so you don't miss the superpowers.
Here's hoping Agent Carter is a fun, light-hearted show that ties up all its loose ends by its conclusion.
