With 2014 coming to a close, I've already covered the most popular stories of 2014 here on nerdy views. So now let's look ahead and talk about the movies I'm anticipating most in 2015. Chances are good you'll be seeing a lot about these films on nerdy views over the next year.
10. Mad Max: Fury Road
What's it about?: George Miller, the writer and director of the first three Mad Max films continues his franchise with Fury Road. In it, Tom Hardy replaces Mel Gibson as Max, and encounters a woman named Furiosa (Charlize Theron) who wants to cross the desert.
Why I'm excited: I've never seen a single Mad Max film all the way through. And my only real memory of the franchise is Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero." But this trailer alone has me excited. It has awesome looking vehicles, crazy stunts, and a car exploding in midair in a sandstorm. Plus, Tom Hardy is good in everything.
When it opens: May 15th
9. Tomorrowland
What's it about?: I have no idea what Tomorrowland is about but this is from Disney Studios:
"Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland."
Why I'm excited: I'm going on the strength of director Brad Bird here because that synopsis from Disney is really vague. I've loved everything Bird has done, from The Iron Giant, to Pixar's The Incredibles and Ratatouille, and his last film, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. If his previous work is any indication of this film, that's why I'm excited, even if I have no idea what the movie is about.
When it opens: May 22nd
8. Chappie
What's it about?: Chappie, an experimental robot is kidnapped by gangsters.
Why I'm excited: Once again, it's the director I'm interested in. Neill Blomkamp's first film, District 9 was an amazing sci-fi thriller. His second film, Elysium was okay but definitely survived on its sci-fi elements. Chappie's robot design is familiar, and looks like it could be an adult version of WALL-E or Short Circuit.
When it opens: March 6th
7. Bond 24: SPECTRE
What's it about?: James Bond faces off against long time evil organization, SPECTRE.
Why I'm excited: First off, Daniel Craig has breathed new life into the Bond franchise. The Casino Royale reboot was like Batman Begins for the secret agent. Quantum of Solace was a little disjointed, but still fun. Skyfall became a mega-hit and earned over a billion dollars worldwide and cemented Craig as James Bond. I can't wait to see what's next with the likes of Oscar winner Christoph Waltz and Sherlock's Andrew Scott in the mix.
When it opens: November 6th
6. Ted 2
What's it about?: No clue what Ted 2 is about. There's no trailer and no synopsis from the studio. But does it even matter? Because the foul mouthed teddy bear is back along with Mark Wahlberg.
Why I'm excited: Ted was a surprise hit back in 2012. When Seth MacFarlane decided to make a film about a teddy bear come to life with essentially the personality of Peter Griffin, who knew it would be so damn funny?!? And who knew Mark Wahlberg could be so funny as well?!? Like I said before, there's pretty much zero information as to what the film is about, but if Ted 2 is as funny as its predecessor, count me in. Meanwhile, here's the trailer for Ted.
When it opens: June 26th
5. Ant-Man
What's it about?: Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, a petty criminal who acquires the Ant-Man technology from inventor Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). Not much else is known, but a trailer should be coming soon.
Why I'm excited: Part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everything they've touched has turned to gold. Ant-Man is one of the sillier concepts to adapt to the big screen, but they said the same thing about Guardians of the Galaxy and look how that turned out. I'm not concerned about any of the problems the film has had with the changing of directors. I'm anticipating a fun heist film.
When it opens: July 17th
4. Furious 7
What's it about?: The gang's all back in Furious 7, and Ian Shaw (Jason Statham), the brother of the man they killed in the last movie is after them.
Why I'm excited: You would think that by the 7th film in a series, it would run out of steam. Look at the Police Academy films for instance! But the last two films in the series have been super fun adding The Rock to the cast and basically becoming heist movies instead of being all about street racing. Plus Jason Statham is finally in the franchise. How did it take so long for the guy who's in every movie about driving to get into this series?!? And the trailer looks ridiculously ludicrous. When it opens: April 3rd
3. Mission: Impossible 5
What's it about?: Who knows? But the majority of the main cast from Ghost Protocol are back for MI5 so I'm guessing the team is going to have to save the world again while using masks and gadgets.
Why I'm excited: In my opinion, the Mission: Impossible franchise has done the impossible and gotten better with each subsequent film. The last two in particular finally had a team vibe to them, instead of being the Tom Cruise show. And Christopher McQuarrie who wrote one of my favorite films, The Usual Suspects is directing. There's no trailer yet, so here's the trailer for Ghost Protocol.

2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
What's it about?: Do you really even care? It's Star Wars! And it's not George Lucas! The original cast is back along with some newcomers in a sequel that takes place about 30 years after Return of the Jedi.
Why I'm excited: The Empire Strikes Back is the first film I saw in theaters so Star Wars has a pretty important place in my movie watching life. J.J. Abrams is directing and he has a lot of goodwill with me having done Alias and the Star Trek reboot. Plus, did I mention it's freaking Star Wars?!? The teaser trailer may have been cryptic and vague, but as soon as the Millennium took flight to the Star Wars theme, I was a five-year old kid again. When it opens: December 18th
1. Avengers: Age Of Ultron
What's it about?: It's artificial intelligence gone wrong. But honestly, if artificial intelligence went right, it would make for a boring movie. It looks like Tony Stark creates Ultron and his drones to help replace the Avengers, but the robot develops daddy issues and tries to kill the team. The ominous trailer featured all sorts of mayhem including a shaken Bruce Banner and Captain America's broken shield. This one is not going to end well.
Why I'm excited: It would seem that Marvel can do no wrong. They made stars out of a talking tree and a trigger happy raccoon for God's sake! The trailer looks super dark, so I'm expecting this to be the Empire Strikes Back of the series, and we all know how good that film was. So the sequel to one of the most fun films I've ever seen tops my list of films to see next year. And you can check out my trailer breakdown here.
