The Marvel Roadmap

Today's Marvel media event essentially did a Chris Rock "drop the mic" and leave the room as it mapped out the next five years with nine movies to add to the two we already know about to give us ELEVEN movies. DC did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, but to be honest, I'm way more excited about this news. Anyway, here's the lineup.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, May 1, 2015. We obviously already knew about this and you can check out the trailer and my trailer breakdown here.

Ant-Man, July 17, 2015. The Paul Rudd led film has hit some obstacles with director Edgar Wright leaving the film, but it's important because it completes Marvel's Phase 2.

Captain America: Civil War, May 6, 2016. Cap 3 has been referred to as Avengers 2.5 and will feature the Civil War storyline which required superhumans to register themselves with the government, with Iron Man leading the pro-registration faction, and Captain America being against it.

Doctor Strange, Nov 4, 2016. Another new property which was briefly teased in The Winter Soldier. Benedict Cumberbatch was just recently cast as the Sorcerer Supreme.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2, May 5, 2017. The first Guardians was awesome! The DVD comes out Dec 9th, but you can check out my top ten moments here.

Thor: Ragnarok, July 28, 2017. (Updated: November 3, 2017) In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is essentially the end of the world. In the Marvel universe, Ragnarok is actually a cyborg clone of Thor. Wrap your head around that one.

Black Panther, November 3, 2017. (Updated: July 6, 2018) Another new property, and the first black superhero. Black Panther is the title held by the chieftain of the Wakandan Panther Clan and wears a costume made of vibranium, the same stuff Captain America's shield is made of. So that shield probably won't stay broken too long after Age of Ultron. Chadwick Boseman has already been cast to play him. He played Jackie Robinson in 42, so maybe I'll go watch that to see how his acting is.

Captain Marvel, July 6, 2018. (Updated: November 2, 2018) Captain Marvel, (no not Shazam!) will be the first female-led film from Marvel studios as it will be the Carol Danvers version. She's a human/Kree hybrid with super strength, stamina, and flight.

Inhumans, Nov 2, 2018. (Updated: July 12, 2019) From the official press release:

“November 3, 2018 will introduce dozens of characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” promised Feige. “We really do believe the Inhumans can be a franchise or a series of franchise unto themselves. They have dozens of powers and an amazing social structure. With our 20th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we wanted to continue to refine what that universe is about.”

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, May 4, 2018 & Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, May 3, 2019. A two part Infinity War? Yes please! This pretty much confirms the involvement of the Infinity Gauntlet and Thanos.

Combined with DC's slate, this makes 21 superhero films coming out in the next 6 years not counting films from other studios like Fantastic Four or Spider-Man.
