Setting the Stage for Civil War

I gotta say the security at this week's Marvel event must have been pretty crappy because ANOTHER video leaked online. But of course when Hydra is your security company, you have to expect these things. Anyway, this clip shows a tense scene between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers which mirrors and amplifies the animosity the two had for each other in the first Avengers. Take a look.

The audio isn't the greatest so here's a transcript of the scene.

Tony: Thor didn't say where he was going for answers?

Steve: Sometimes my teammates don't tell me things. Kinda hoping Thor would be the exception.

Tony: Yeah, give him time. We don't know what the Maximoff kid showed him.

Steve: I don't know what she showed you, I just know it made you do something stupid. Earth's mightiest heroes... Pulled us apart like cotton candy.

Tony: Seems like you walked away all right.

Steve: Is that a problem?

Tony: I don't trust a guy without a dark side. Call me old fashioned.

Steve: Well let's just say you haven't seen it yet.

Tony: Banner and I were doing research.

Steve: That would affect the team.

Tony: That would END the team. Isn't that the mission? Isn't that the why we fight? So we can end the fight? So we get to go home?

Steve: RIPS APART LOG WITH BARE HANDS. Every time someone tries to win a war before it starts, innocent people die. Every time.

Not knowing the context, or where this takes place in the movie, what can we take away from this clip?
  • Thor's gone somewhere (maybe back to Asgard? or to Jane Foster?) due to something Scarlet Witch told/showed him.
  • Tony did something stupid (according to Cap) after Scarlet Witch showed him something. And it may have caused the team to be defeated, but with Cap still okay. Implying Tony isn't?
  • Tony still doesn't trust Cap. Just call him an old fashioned genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.

  • Stark & Banner were working on something that would essentially negate the need for the Avengers. Is that thing Ultron and his many drones?
  • Captain America is still an old fashioned ideologist. And he's still freakishly strong.
Full disclosure, I haven't read the Civil War storyline from the comics that this seems to be alluding to, so I truly have no idea where this is going. But I think it's a great scene that shows the movie isn't going to be all explosions and action. It also brings up how Tony doesn't really play well with others. He's entering Civil War with Cap, he's fighting the Hulk with the Hulkbuster Armor, what other Avengers could he possibly engage?

The Marvel hype train is full steam ahead, much like Snowpiercer going around the world. And I have a feeling it's only going to get faster. I'm just hoping I don't get motion sickness before May. ;)
