Weird Al's 8 Videos in 8 Days

For the past week, "Weird Al" Yankovic has been releasing a new video every day promoting his new album, Mandatory Fun. Here's a convenient compilation of all the videos, and I've listed them from my least to most favorite.

Mission Statement

In the style of Crosby, Stills, & Nash's "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," comes a song depicting corporate buzzwords used over and over that just flat out have no meaning. While there's nothing wrong with the song, I think for me it hits a little too close to home considering I hear a lot of this stuff at work already.



Sports Song

It's a marching band song making fun of pretty much every sports chant that goes on at college football games these days.



Handy

Parodying Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," it's a commercial for just how handy this handyman is. I've put this low because of my general unfamiliarity with the original song. Yes, I've probably been living under a rock all summer...



Lame Claim to Fame

In the style of Southern Culture on the Skids, comes a song about one man's tenuous link to celebrities he "encounters." Really fun song, and the stop-motion video is very creative.



First World Problems

In the style of The Pixies, Weird Al laments over not being able to order breakfast because of sleeping in, and not being able to get anything out of the vending machine because all his bills are too large. Yup, first world problems indeed!



Tacky

The first and flagship song off the new album, Tacky takes on Pharrell's Happy, and twists it into a song about how tacky one can be from their clothes to their behavior. The song doesn't lose any of its upbeat-ness and is still as catchy as the original tune. Plus the video features cameos from Aisha Tyler to Jack Black, and is captured in one long continuous shot.



Foil

Making sure he has at least one song related to food, Weird Al parodies Lorde's "Royals" with Foil. It starts off about food, and then it takes a hilariously dark turn.



Word Crimes

And my favorite song off the new album is Word Crimes, taken from Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." Grammar Nazis, this one's for you!



Honorable Mention: Inactive

Parodying Imagine Dragons "Radioactive," Inactive didn't get a video, but this song about general laziness is hilarious.



All in all, Weird Al still has it. When any yahoo can upload parody songs to YouTube nowadays, you get a lot of crap. It's good to know Weird Al is still on top of his game.
